In Bangladesh, ship-breaking turns a stretch of beach into a vision of hell and a parable of globalisation. This photo were taken by Saiful Huq Omi, a photographer whose home is about 40 minutes’ drive from the beach.
“I was born in this place,” he says. “I grew up in this place.” He was keen to get to the heart of the matter. In other photographers’ pictures, you cannot see the brutality of the business, how it is killing people. It is still not considered an industry, the workers have no rights.”
